DJ 101 Training with DJ Leanne

?One of my favorite local DJ's both from a musical point of view (I'm a sucker for a good house beat) and from a business point of view (she's got a DJ School, a Lable, books club nights and has an events company, entrepreneur much?)

Anyway, I found this video with is promo for her new DJ course at TOM LEE

It's a good basic primer on how to DJ using digital gear.

Commercial Drive Open Streets festivities cancelled

Open Streets, one of Vancouver’s four recurring car-free Summer Spaces events, closed Commercial Drive from Venables Street to First Avenue and was supposed to run on Sundays throughout July and August.

Craig Ollenberger, a director with Car Free Vancouver, said the decision to cancel the remaining Commercial Drive Open Streets festivities was made after the majority of businesses said they were not interested in seeing it continue.

“It was a festive and fun environment,” Ollenberger said. “It’s too bad it didn’t get a chance to grow ... but we figured it was better to respect the concerns of business.

Summer Dance Camp

So You Think You Can…Summer Dance Camp

Kids and parents both look forward to summer break. But how do parents keep their child safe and supervised while keeping their minds and bodies active?

Noticing a lack of summer programs in the downtown core for kids and teens, the Drive Dance Centre on Commercial Drive is now offering specialized Art and Dance Camps at an affordable price.

“Our Arts & Dance Camps are our way of giving back to the community and making dance and art more accessible,” shares Georgiev. “The camps provide the challenge, interaction, and fun of sport activities – all while building the students’ confidence from learning a talent they’ve only dreamed of doing, like what they see on shows like So You Think You Can Dance.

Kids can sing, dance, draw, and enjoy arts and crafts in a non-intimidating atmosphere.  While teens train in a variety of classical, ballroom, and Latin techniques from seasoned professionals including Drive Dance Centre founder and owner, Geneen Georgiev, and Latin Ballroom Champion, Katya Virshilas (danced that legendary tango scene in Take the Lead).

Drive Dance Centre is now offering kids and teens a much needed alternative summer activity with its art and dance camps. Teens Beginner & Intermediate Camp (age 12-18 yrs) runs June 29 - July 3; and Kids Art & Dance Camp (ages 3-11 yrs) runs July 13 - July 17, 2009. 604.762.4232. More info here.
