Welcome to Live In Strathcona, a community blog and online discussion forum sponsored by long-time Strathcona resident and realtor, Rick Stonehouse.
Previously, Stonehouse kept a blog called Live In Strathcona, posting various observations and events about the Strathcona neighborhood to celebrate the people, places, and happenings of one of Vancouver's oldest neighborhoods. As he continued to be involved in the community and his business, he discovered an opportunity to create stronger community voices through a central forum that would benefit all residents, associations, and businesses of the Strathcona community.
Riel Roussopoulos, another Strathcona resident and business owner/entrepreneur, educated Stonehouse about the power and benefits of the internet for building community and promoting business, events, and issues, all of which are important to every one of us in our community.
Roussopoulos, owner of iXLD Media and proponent of open-source, was on the road to developing new technologies that capitalize on future growth trends of internet social networking, how it relates to building cohesive communities, how it supports business and residents, and promotes sharing of information and building consensus.
As Roussopoulos and Stonehouse discussed their visions and dreams, Live In Strathcona began to take shape. With this site, the vision is to promote the Strathcona community, the different business, school, parent, resident, and policing associations, as well as local events for community and artists alike.
Browse around and take part. Sign-up is completely free, the discussion forums are for you to participate and have your voices heard. Check out the latest news from the Strathcona Residents Association and discuss issues through the online forum.
