"A Time for Renewal" is the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association's latest report on B.C.'s recreational facilities.

According to this report, the recreational facilities need a $5.2-billion overhaul in the next 10 years to bring them up to standard and meet the changing needs of the population.

The cost could be even bigger if outdoor recreation facilities — such as trails, playing fields and parks — are also upgraded.

68 per cent of arenas, pools and recreation centers in B.C. are at least 25 years old and unable to deal with a increasingly population. Beside that, almost all this recreational facilities aren't strong enough to handle seismic issues and don't keep up with people needs: they don't have family changing rooms or all-in-one amenities such as a swimming pool, library, fitness centre and ice rink.
